3rd Quarter Math State Standards
(Standards tested for report card)
K.G.1 Identify, name, and describe 3-D shapes: cube, cone, cylinder, sphere
How you can help? Work with your child on naming things around the home. You can often find things like: soup cans, jars, glue sticks (cylinders), party hats (cone), kleenex boxes, presents, dice (cubes), basketballs, soccer balls (spheres), etc. to use to help them learn these solid shapes.
K.G.2 & 3 Name, sort, and identify shapes as 2-D (flat shapes) and 3-D (solid shapes).
How you can help: Talk about squares, circles, triangles, and rectangles and how they are flat, or can be hidden inside a book. The solid shapes listed above take up space, are solid, and cannot be hidden inside the pages of a book.
K.CC.6 Compare two groups of objects as greater, equal, or less and name the group that is asked for
How you can help: This is easy to practice when giving your child a snack. Give them two groups of pretzels or carrot sticks and have them count them out and tell you which group is bigger or smaller.
K.OA.2 When read aloud, use objects or drawings to show addition and subtraction problems less than or equal to 10.
How you can help: Use toys or food to have them show problems. Ask them how many cars they would have if they had 2 cars and were given 3 more. Food is another way to show these problems.
K.CC.1 Count to 100 by 1's
How you can help: Practice counting while in the car. We want them to be able to count all the way to 100 without help or without skipping numbers.
K.CC.1 Count to 100 by 10's
How you can help: We sing a song that helps with this. See below :)
